Aerobics

Dance is the new aerobics; a wide variety of styles incorporated into studio sessions to create a workout everyone can enjoy.

Members of Chelmers are flocking to classes, which include a wide variety of dances from the Lambada to Aerofunk. Typical of this new trend is Latino Lo, an aerobic dance class with Latino, salsa and aerobic moves, or Le Roc lessons, with easy to learn moves from the 1950s, set to current day music.

In addition to burning calories, dancing also works a variety of muscle groups. For example, classes like Lindy Hop, a form of swing, can really tone up the upper body arms and chest, whereas Merengue, a variation of Salsa, gives the torso and lower body a thorough workout.

The Five Golden Rules

  1. Exercise should always be fun.
One of the great benefits of regular exercise is the social aspect.
  2. Start Gently and Build Up Gradually.
Taking things gradually you will begin to get fitter after just a week or two.
  3. Always Warm Up and Stretch Before Exercising.
And when you have finished, ease off gradually and allow yourself to cool down. A repeat of the warm-up exercises won't hurt at this stage either.
  4. Never Exercise When You Have a Cold.
There is the possibility that a cold or flu virus can damage the heart if heavy exercise is taken when the virus is still visible.
  5. After a Heavy Meal.
Wait at Least Two Hours Before Exercising. If you are peckish, take a light snack that can easily be digested, but it is better to wait.
